New Advances & Trends in e-learning

Bio: Dr. Mahnaz Moallem is a professor and chair of the Department of Educational Technology and Literacy, College of Education, Towson University, Maryland. She joined Towson University in Aug. 2018. She was a professor of Instructional Technology and Research and Grant Coordinator at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), College of Education where she worked as a faculty member since 1993. She received her Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Design/Learning Systems and her Program Evaluation Certificate from Florida State University. As a learning science/learning design researcher, she studies applications of various learning and instructional design theories and models for learning and human performance improvement. She has a particular interest in the application of Problem-Based/Project-Based Learning (PBL) and assessment of complex learning outcomes such as problem-solving and critical thinking for STEM fields. During her career, she has designed, developed, and successfully implemented and evaluated several programs that have been using PBL as their pedagogical framework. Mahnaz has been the recipient of various awards in scholarship, teaching, and graduate mentorship. Besides, within the last fifteen years, she has been awarded funding to coordinate several innovative projects sponsored by the National Science Foundation and Department of Education on the integration of PBL with computer modeling and simulation. She has worked with many international colleagues and serves on the editorial board of a number of prestigious national and international journals. Mahnaz has been the recipient of various teaching and research awards and has served as a rotating scientist (IPA) for two years at the National Science Foundation.

Bio: Dr. Gholam Ali Montazer is a Professor of information Technology in Tarbiat Modares University | TMU. Department of Information Technology. He joined Tarbiat Modares University as a faculty member since 1999 and know works as a Full Professor of Information Technology in School of Engineering. He Researching in various fields of IT, including “E-learning”, “E-government”, “Soft security” and “Intelligent system design using soft-computing methods” are his main research activities.

Bio: Dr. Rita Mojtahedzadeh has PhD in e-learning Planning. She is one of the founders of Virtual School of Tehran University of Medical Sciences and currently a faculty member of e-Learning in Medical Education Department in this school; meanwhile, she is second-affiliated faculty member of Medical Education Department in Virtual University of Medical Sciences. She has been one of principal investigators of several research projects in the field of e-learning and medical education in Iran, some are as follows: academic ranking of medical schools, metrics systems of faculties members’ activities, comprehensive educational award system, and comprehensive system of e-continuous medical education (e-CME), national institutional accreditation system of e-learning centers and so on. Now she, as the core responsible body, is working on development and establishment of Iran's national Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) platform and national Learning Management System (LMS). She has published several articles and books in related fields.

Daniel Georges Apollon

Bio: Dr. Daniel Apollon is an associate professor in digital culture at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Bergen, Norway. An active member of the Research for Digital Culture, Daniel has broad interests covering cultural and social perspectives on information technology, electronic text and edition, semantic web and the philosophy of networked knowledge society. Until 2008 Daniel headed also the Research Group on Text Technologies at UNIFOB AKSIS AS, Bergen. Daniel has been involved as European coordinator in many EU projects on digital culture and electronic literature. He has also a long track record as academic expert for the European Commission, Agence Nationale de la Recherche, NFR, Unesco and the former European Rectors' Conference. He is also active in COST Actions on electronic edition and e-Content projects. Daniel is also a film-maker with deep interest in ethnographic film-making.
